Paediatric First aid is a first aid course for professionals who
have a responsibility for the safety and well being of children in their
care. These professionals are typically from the Early Years Foundation
Stage. For example Preschool workers, After School club workers, lunch
time supervisors, and teachers in primary school, middle schools and
teachers from special needs settings.
The age
of these children can range from newborn to adolescence. The Paeditraic
First Aid course can be delivered in two parts or a one day 6 hour
element. The one day First Aid course provides the learner with a basic
understanding of Paediatric First Aid. The Learner would be issued on
successful completion of a basic award in emergency Paeditaric first
aid. The basic Paeditraic First aid Course does not meet the requirement
of the Early Years Foundation Stage or the requirements of first aid
prevision for OFSTED settings such as schools.
The
12 hour Paeditraic First Aid. Typically is run over two days. The 12
hour or 2 day Paeditaric First Aid is the minimum legal requirement for
all Early Years Foundation Stage settings and for all school with
children below adolescence. This course meet the legal requirements for
First Aid prevision for Early Years Foundation Stage settings and OFSTED
settings such as schools.
The Paediatric
First Aid 12 hour course is a regulated award that is monitored in part
by the County Council Early Years department. The companies that provide
the training in the local county council area are vetted by the local
authority. It is essential that only these County Council approved
providers are used to provide Paediatric First Aid training as only
their quality of training has been deemed to meet the needs of the local
authority Early Years Foundation Stage Department.
The
12 Hour Paediatric First Aid course is an advanced First Aid course
specifically for children. The course focuses on emergencies specific to
children and medical problems common in children. These include
subjects such as bleeding, management of shock, and sickle cell anemia.
The
course includes both practical assessments and a theory based multiple
choice question paper. The multiple choice question paper is an
important element to the course for both the student and for the setting
to be competent the learner has demonstrated and absorbed the knowledge
required of the award.The student must pass all practical and theory
based assessments and be deemed competent in the application of First
Aid in order to pass the course.
On successful
completion of the 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid course the student is
issued with a Certificate in 12 hour Paediatric First Aid valid for
three years, Paediatric First Aid Manual and personal ID Card.
Many students go onto complete Anaphylaxsis awareness training
and the use to epi-pens. This course is a separate course normally of
2.5 hour initial training and a annual thereafter refresher of 1 hour
yearly.
